128 new cases, tally 2164; One more dies in J&K, toll 28

Kashmir remains top in the number of virus cases

JAMMU, May 29: J&K on Friday recorded 128 COVID-19 cases and one more death, taking the numbers to 2164 and 28 deaths.
Medical Superintendent, SMHS, Dr Nazir Choudary told that a 70-year-old man from Shopian was admitted at the hospital on May 27, stating that the man was suffering from pneumonia and he died on Thursday.
After his death, sample was taken for COVID-19 testing, which came positive on Friday, he said.
Dr. Salim Khan, Nodal Officer for COVID-19 at GMC Srinagar said that 70-year-old male from Aliarpora, Bagander Shopian was admitted on 27-05-2020 as pneumonia with underlying hypertension and diabetes mellitus.
He said that the patient died on Thursday evening and on Friday, his sample reports came positive.
With his death, the overall death toll due to COVID-19 in Jammu and Kashmir has reached 28 including 25 from Kashmir division and three from Jammu division .
Srinagar reported 27 cases, Kulgam 19, Kupwara 18, Poonch 14, Pulwama 13, Baramulla 8, Jammu 7, Anantnag , Rajouri and Kathua 6 each, Samba 2 and one each in Shopian and Udhampur.
Kashmir remains top on the curve in infections and deaths. So far, 2164 people have been found infected of whom 28 have succumbed to the COVID-19.

36 from Jammu division and 92 from Kashmir division, have been reported today thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 2164. Also 01 COVID-19 death has been reported from Kashmir Division. .
Moreover, 16 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals, 05 from Jammu Division and 11 from Kashmir Division.
According to the daily Media Bulletin on novel Coronavirus (Covid-19), out of 2164 positive cases, 1261 are Active Positive, 875 have recovered and 28 have died; 03 in Jammu division and 25 in Kashmir division.
The Bulletin further said that out of 156010 test results available, 153846 samples have been tested as negative till May 29, 2020.
Additionally, till date 158773 travellers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for surveillance which included 34495 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 54 in Hospital Quarantine, 1261 in hospital isolation and 41525 under home surveillance. Besides, 81410 persons have completed their surveillance period.
Providing district-wise breakup, the Bulletin said that Bandipora has 145 positive cases with 12 Active Positive, 132 recovered, 01 death; Srinagar has 246 positive cases (including 27 cases reported today) with 111 Active Positive, 128 recovered (including 02 cases recovered today), 07 deaths; Anantnag district has 295 positive cases (including 06 cases reported today), with 170 Active Positive, 120 recovered, 05 deaths; Baramulla has 177 positive cases (including 08 cases reported today) with 70 Active Positive, 102 recovered (including 04 cases recovered today), 05 deaths; Shopian has 152 positive cases (including 01 case reported today) with 44 Active Positive, 107 recovered and 01 death; Kupwara has 255 positive cases (including 18 case reported today) with 181 Active Positive, 74 recovered (including 04 cases recovered today); Budgam has 89 positive cases, with 35 Active Positive and 52 recovered cases (including 01 case recovered today) and 02 deaths; Ganderbal has 31 positive cases with 07 Active cases and 24 recoveries; Kulgam has 273 positive cases (including 19 cases reported today), with 246 Active Positive and 23 recoveries and 04 deaths and Pulwama reported 65 positive cases (including 13 cases reported today) with 53 active positive and 12 recovered.
Similarly, Jammu has 128 positive cases (including 07 cases reported today) with 89 active positive cases and 37 recoveries (including 01 case recovered today) and 02 deaths; Udhampur has 52 positive cases (including 01 cases reported today) with 29 active positive cases, 22 recovered and 01 death; Samba has 34 positive cases (including 02 cases reported today) with 24 Active Positive and 10 recoveries; Rajouri has 21 positive cases (including 06 cases reported today) with 16 active positive cases and 05 recovered (including 01 case recovered today); Kathua has 65 positive cases (including 06 cases reported today) with 46 Active positive and 19 recovered (including 03 cases recovered today); Kishtwar has 08 positive case with 07 active positive cases and 01 recovered; Ramban has 75 positive cases with 72 active positive and 03 recoveries; Reasi has 13 positive cases with 10 active positive and 03 recovered, Poonch has 38 active positive cases (including 14 cases reported today) while Doda has 02 positive cases with 01 active positive case and 01 recovered.
According to the bulletin, of the total 2164 positive cases in the UT of J&K 990 have been reported as of travellers and 1174 have been reported as others.
The Bulletin said that the breakup represents districts from which the patients have been traced or are ordinarily residing.
The bulletin has urged upon the public to maintain physical distance of at least 2 metre from others, frequently clean hands with an alcohol based hand sanitizer or washing them with soap and water and following good respiratory etiquettes & hygiene which is the best way to protect themselve from COVID-19.
As a measure for social distancing in public places and workplaces wearing a face cover is compulsory.
The bulletin again explained that early detection of COVID-19 can prevent the spread of disease so we need to be responsible for the well-being of ourselves and everyone around us. “Not disclosing symptoms could put life of individuals and their families at risk. In case of symptoms like fever, cough and difficulty in breathing report early. Do not fear, call COVID-19 helpline numbers and seek medical advice”.
Advisory has further exhorted upon the people not to step out of home, unless absolutely necessary. “If you have to move out for unavoidable reasons, ensure that you wear a mask and practice social distancing, personal hygiene and frequent handwashing with soap and water.”
