Covid-19 claims another life in Kashmir

SRINAGAR, May 29: The number of fatalities due to Corona-virus in Jammu and Kashmir has gone up to 28 after an elderly patient from Shopian south Kashmir breathed his last at Sri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) hospital here last night.
The 70-year-old patient from village Baghandar in south Kashmir’s Shopian district died of multiple ailments including pneumonia, hypertension and diabetes. The deceased was admitted at the Valley’s major referral hospital two days ago.
With the death of elderly man, the toll jumped to 28 in Jammu and Kashmir, 25 in Kashmir valley alone and 03 in Jammu province of the Union Territory.
Nodal Officer for COVID-19 at Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar, Dr Saleem Khan while confirming the death said the patient from Shopian died two days after being admitted at SMHS hospital.
He said the body of the deceased COVID-19 positive patient was kept in mortuary and samples were sent for testing which turned out to be positive.
“Deceased was admitted at SMHS hospital two days ago. He was suffering from multiple ailments including pneumonia, diabetes and hypertension which also lead to his life. His test also turned positive,” he added.
Meanwhile, authorities declared Narwara and Dhara Harwan areas of Srinagar city as containment Red-Zones after a teenager among three persons were tested for COVID-19.
Two persons were tested positive for Corona-Virus in Dhara Harwan while another, a teenager from Narwara area in old city fell prey to the deadly virus. Authorities declared both the areas as containment Red-Zones and their adjoining localities as Buffer-Zones.
Police reports said they sealed all the entry and exit points in Narwara and Dhara Harwan and asked people to stay indoors to avoid contracting infection where as stringent contact tracing process was initiated.
