Trent Alexander-Arnold includes Liverpool and Arsenal strikes in his top three goals of all time

Trent Alexander-Arnold included iconic strikes by Liverpool great Steven Gerrard and Arsenal legend Thierry Henry in his top three goals of all time.

The 21-year-old defender knows how to strike a ball sweetly due to his dead-ball duties with Liverpool and picked three of the most iconic volleys of all time in his list.

A Champions League winner in his own right, Alexander-Arnold chose two of the competition's best ever goals - with Gerrard's thunderous volley against Olympiacos in 2004 accompanied by Zinedine Zidane's heroic 2002 Champions League final strike.

And his other selection came from the Premier League thanks to Henry's masterful flick then volley against Manchester United in 2000.

Alexander-Arnold set out that he made his selections not just on the merit of the goal but also the quality of the opposition and the importance of the game.

The England man wrote on Twitter: "My top goals of all time: Gerrard v Olympiacos (what a hit son, what a hit); Henry v United (the flick up and hit on the turn); Zidane volley v Leverkusen (you know the one).

"Got to factor in opposition and importance of the game. What you got?"

Gerrard's 25-yard half-volley against Greek giants Olympiacos certainly fits Alexander-Arnold's criteria and is remembered fondly for Andy Gray's "what a hit son" commentary.

The Liverpool captain's strike secured his side's progression to the knock-out stages of the Champions League - which they went on to win that season.

Alexander-Arnold's second choice was arguably a less important goal but a more pleasing one on the eye.

Receiving the ball on the edge of the area, Henry flicked the ball up before spinning on the spot and firing a looping volley over a helpless Fabian Barthez.

Speaking about the goal after the match, Sir Alex Ferguson said "I couldn't believe it." Despite Henry's winner in the 1-0 victory, United went on to win the Premier League that season as the Gunners finished runners-up by 10 points.

Alexander-Arnold's final selection is perhaps the pick of the bunch, combining skill and the big stage.

Zidane's strike against Bayer Leverkusen in the 2002 Champions League final is considered one of the best goals in the competition's history.

Time stood still as the France legend poised himself to receive a dipping cross from Roberto Carlos and wheel a bullet of a volley into the top corner from just inside the area.

Zidane went on to be awarded man of the match for his heroics.
