Ilhan Omar had ‘Britney Spears-style meltdown’ after first marriage ended

Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar addresses feverish speculation over her messy personal life in a new autobiography where she describes a “Britney Spears-style meltdown” after leaving her first husband, which included shaving her head and eloping with a man she says she barely knew.

In her memoir, “This Is What America Looks Like: My Journey from Refugee to Congresswoman,” the far-left Democrat also claims that a years-long rumor that she married her brother so he could get US citizenship is part of a smear campaign by the Somali community.

The 37-year-old has been dogged for years by a persistent rumor that her second husband, a mysterious British citizen named Ahmed Elmi, was in fact her brother and that she remained with her first husband and father of her three children, Ahmed Hirsi, the entire time.

The story was corroborated by at least one family friend who told The Post last year that the trio lived under the same roof and that Elmi was introduced at Somali gatherings as Omar’s brother. Records also indicate the pair lived in the same house.

The FBI is now reviewing the unproven claims that the congresswoman committed immigration fraud.

In her book, Omar tells a very different version of events and glosses over this mysterious second husband who she claims she eloped with.

“I had a Britney Spears-style meltdown, I not only eloped with a man — whom I spent so little time with that I wouldn’t even make him a footnote in my story if it weren’t for the fact that this event turned into the main headline later on — but I shaved my head,” the progressive lawmaker wrote, according to a Daily Mail report.

“Yes, like the beleaguered pop star, who shaved her head in 2007, I took clippers to my own head. Too many headaches, too little sleep — I had to flee myself, my relationships, my hair,” she continued.

“The difference between Britney and me is that I wore a hijab, so nobody knew what I had done — except my children who were very surprised. “Mommy looks like me,” Adnan [Omar’s son] declared. And he was right, I did look like a little boy.”

The mom-of-three claimed that the rumor was initially placed on a Somali community board because she refused to “kiss the ring” and said it unleashed “a torrent of speculation and conspiracies that follow me to this day.”

“Instead of celebrating the first black Muslim woman elected to a state legislature in the United States, some people in my own community continued to work against it,” she wrote, per the Mail report.

“They refused to accept me because I wouldn’t kiss the ring. The source of the information about my brief past relationship was the work of people trying to preserve their power structure,” she continued.

“It didn’t work. Despite all their efforts, I kept rising. Ironically, I don’t know if I would have the widespread support I do today if I hadn’t been messed with as much as I have. Influence and enemies go hand in hand.”

Omar, who along with firebrand democratic socialist New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is a member of what the freshmen congresswomen call “The Squad,”  married her campaign finance manager, Tim Mynett, in March after The Post exclusively revealed allegations the two were having an affair in August.

The Democratic rising star has been slapped with multiple campaign finance complaints after her new husband and then-lover received more than $370,000 from her campaign.

Omar filed for divorce from husband Ahmed Hirsi two months later.

Omar initially denied the split, but one source in the Minneapolis Somali community said the pair broke up months before and claimed Omar was privately lobbying Hirsi to divorce her.

Hirsi, who reportedly learned of his wife’s affair after he walked in on Omar and Mynett in her DC crib, himself remarried just 37 days after the divorce was finalized in November.

Omar makes no mention of Mynett, her third husband, in the memoir.
