Nursery teacher red-faced after discovering why newly-purchased candle 'disappeared'

by

A nursery teacher was left embarrassed after her sister publicly shamed her when she got upset that her newly-purchased candle had "disappeared" - as she didn't realise burning it would use it up.

Charlotte Heckermann bought her sister Ami Heckermann a scented wax melting pot for her room, and gave her a tealight to burn to release the scent into her room last weekend.

But 18-year-old Ami was horrified to discover the tealight 'disappeared' after burning for four hours.

She immediately texted Charlotte claiming she was 'confused' and upset.

In a hilarious text exchange, Ami asked her 21-year-old sibling 'where has the wax in my candle gone' and claimed it had 'disappeared'.

When Charlotte explained 'that's what happens' when you burn a candle, Ami was annoyed that this meant she had to get a new candle and bemoaned people 'didn't tell [her] this'.

Charlotte, from Manchester, said: "[It] evaporates. That's the 'fuel' for the candle to burn."

Ami said: "So [I've] gotta get a new candle. Didn't tell me this. Cheers son's crying."

When Charlotte asked her why she thought she always put a new candle in, Ami admitted she thought she 'had OCD' and then accused her of being a 'candle expert'.

Ami claims she had never had a candle before - and always assumed they lasted after seeing family members pull out the same candles at Christmas every year.

Charlotte shared her sister's antics online where it got more than 1,400 likes, shares and comments from amused pals.

Ami, who works as a nursery nurse, said: "Charlotte does stuff like that all the time.

"The smell in my room changed. It was the wax melting, I think. It didn't smell as strongly anymore.

"I went over and all the wax was gone. I messaged my sister straight away like, 'where's my candle gone?'. I was so confused.

"I found it funny because most of the comments are something like, 'everyone has days like this' or 'I feel like this is something I would do'. That's the funniest thing.

"It's the first time I've had a candle to myself. My family have had them but I think they just blow them out. They just blow them out and pull them out again the next year.

"We've had the same candles for about five years. The wax just stayed in. We'd only get them out at Christmas but even then it would just be for a couple of hours, or we'd have fake ones.

"I will definitely go out and get some more candles now. My room smelled lovely."

Charlotte, who works as a salon manager, said: "I thought it was common sense but clearly not. It made me laugh. Anything to take the p*** out of my sister - I'm only joking.

"I bought her a melt pot, one of these things where you put a candle in the bottom and a melt wax in the top. I bought her some melts as well that are my favourite smell.

"She didn't have any candles so I gave her a candle. That's when, that night, she texted me at 4 o'clock in the morning and said, are you awake?

"I thought she was joking. I asked her if she was being serious. She said, 'yes, I'm being serious, where's it gone?'.

"She likes the melts that I always buy so she wanted them, but she didn't realise you have to get more candles.

"I was a bit confused myself as I didn't understand how she didn't know. I thought it was common sense that she would have known, so I was laughing to myself in bed.

"She is quite clever, so I don't know why she didn't realise. She is very witty and comical most of the time.

"I'll be teasing her about it for years to come. She'll be getting a candle for her birthday."
