Jose Mourinho issues positive injury update on Harry Kane and other Tottenham stars
by Freddie KeighleyTottenham Hotspur are set to have a clean bill of health when the Premier League season resumes next month.
Manager Jose Mourinho has provided positive updates on injured stars Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, Steven Bergwijn and Moussa Sissoko.
England captain Kane has been out with a hamstring tear and midfielder Moussa Sissoko needed knee ligament surgery after an injury-struck 1-0 defeat to Southampton on New Year's Day.
Meanwhile, Son fractured his arm during a 3-2 win at Villa Park in February and Bergwijn suffered an ankle injury during Spurs' 1-1 draw with Burnley in March - their last league game before the season was suspended.
However, Mourinho confirmed all four players are set to resume full training with the Spurs squad ahead of the Premier League's restart on 17 June.
"In relation to the big injuries that ended in surgeries, Moussa, Sonny and Harry, yes, they are back,” Mourinho said.
“We are going to start training with the full group next Monday, and yes, they are going to be involved in the group."
The Portuguese also warned that players will need to be carefully managed as matches resume after a three-month suspension.
He added: “We have to be ready for problems now because this is pre-season, and pre-season brings problems.
"I know that some people are speaking about it in a way that it’s a new thing in football, but it’s not a new thing, problems in pre-season, players a long time without playing, without even training on the pitch, without competing, so now the players are back, I can’t imagine it’s going to be different for us.
“We have to be very careful with the players’ welfare, and this pre-season is probably more difficult than other pre-seasons, because they come from a long period without training, so we have to be careful with that.
“It’s not like on Monday we start training together and immediately we are going to do 11 against 11 because we’re ready, no, we are not going to do that. We want to make sure that progressively we are going to arrive on matchday one and be, let’s say, ready.
“So, let’s go step by step and of course, we want to be ready, we want to be ready to fight for points, to give fun to people, to give joy to Tottenham fans, to give good matches to everyone who loves football around the world and let’s go for it.”
