Gogglebox fans fear it has been taken off air as Channel 4 shows 'best bits' episode
by Charlotte TuttonGogglebox has finished its latest series sadly, with the finale airing a week ago.
On Friday, the latest episode, and the last of the series officially, was a "best bits" episode.
It recapped some of the most hilarious moments of the past few months, in a series that was different to any other.
The show kept filming amid the coronavirus lockdown, but without crews present and with some stars of the show missing to socially distance themselves.
The show is said to be returning later on this year, while the celebrity edition will be back in June.
But some viewers of the hit show appeared to miss the memo entirely - after the TV guide listed the latest episode as "new".
They tuned in on Friday night expecting to see more new scenes from their favourites, including Jenny and Lee.
Instead, they soon realised the episode was repeated scenes and not everyone could understand why.
Some even quizzed if the show had been silenced and filming stopped, as a result of backlash over comments made about the government and Boris Johnson regarding COVID-19 and lockdown.
Clearly not hearing the start of the show where they confirmed it had ended and a "best bits" would air in its place, many fans took to Twitter to ask what had happened.
One fan asked: "Why are they screening an old #Gogglebox tonight?"
Another said: "Hmm... #Gogglebox is just a highlights episode?"
A third tweeted: "what a coincidence that it happens during the week of the #cummingsMustGo debacle."
But viewers who were fully aware of the change were on hand to explain the real situation.
One viewer responded: "THE SERIES FINISHED LAST WEEK. GET OVER IT!!!"
Another said: "They said last week that it was the final programme of the series this is best bits of the past few months . The next series of gogglebox returns later in the year."
A third added: "Jesus X are people so thick ? Said clearly at beginning Best of series !!"
Gogglebox returns with its celebrity edition next Friday at 9pm on Channel 4.
