Residents told how around a dozen police cars, ambulances, a doctor and scene of crime officers were scrambled to flats in Hilton, Inverness.

One source said of Thursday’s alert: “We couldn’t believe the number of police who arrived.

“It was pretty obvious it was a serious incident. It’s such a tragedy.”

The two men were named locally as Dwayne MacLeay and Gary Mackay.

The woman was receiving treatment today.

Cops stood guard outside the sealed-off property as an investigation was launched.

Officers said the deaths were being treated as suspicious. Detective Chief Inspector David Hadden, of Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team, added: “Inquiries are ongoing and at a very early stage.

“My thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased at this difficult time.

"I would like to take this opportunity to stress there is no threat to the wider community.

“This appears to have been a contained incident, however there will be a significant police presence in the area while our investigation continues.

“I would like to thank local residents for their patience.”

Cops confirmed a man of 23 was arrested and charged in connection with the alleged 10pm incident.

The suspect is expected to appear at Inverness Sheriff Court on Monday.
