Four Brazilian men arrested during a major Garda operation on Wednesday appeared in court on Friday on weapons charges.

Hugo Henrique Rodrigues, 23, with an address at Ballymahon in Co Longford, Ildomar Cabrar De Silva, 29, of no fixed abode, Sergio Machado Filho, 36, of Temple Bar in Dublin and 34-year-old Jefferson Dos Santos, from Ballymahon in Co Longford, were brought separately to Portlaoise District Court.

All four were charged with possession of firearms or ammunition plus a breach of Covid-19 regulations regarding travel.

They were arrested in two vehicles at 12.02am near Clara in Co Offaly.

Judge Catherine Staines remanded them in custody to appear at Cloverhill District Court on Wednesday.
