by

The Lehigh Valley is included in a severe thunderstorm watch until 9 p.m. Friday, the National Weather Service said.

Showers are likely with a thunderstorm possible after 5 p.m., according to the weather service’s forecast for Lehigh Valley International Airport.

“Some storms could be severe, with damaging winds and heavy rain,” the forecast states.

Included in the watch are Lehigh, Northampton, Bucks, Monroe, Warren and Hunterdon counties.

The threat of showers and thunderstorms continues until about 3 a.m. Saturday, followed by a chance of showers. Again, some storms could be severe, according to the weather service.

The chance for precipitation at the airport is 60% Friday afternoon and evening and 80% Friday night into Saturday.

Southern Lehigh County was also under a severe thunderstorm warning, one step above a watch.

The weekend is shaping up to be pleasant, with sunny skies Saturday and Sunday. At the airport, Saturday’s forecast high is near 80, dropping to near 68 on Sunday. The normal high this time of year at Allentown is 76.
