COVID-19: Borno beats Lagos’ record, discharges 135 patients

With the latest record published on Friday, May 29, Borno state has finally beaten Lagos to become the state with the highest number of recovered coronavirus patients throughout Nigeria.

The feat in Borno was revealed Deputy Governor Alhaji Usman Kadafur who stated that the state on Friday discharged 135 persons who medically certified as being free from the disease.

Referring to the development as a groundbreaking victory in the fight against the virus, Kadafur noted that it came as a result of unrelenting efforts the taskforce committee and health workers inthe state.

The deputy governor said: “The tremendous achievement made the state to record few cases in the past weeks.

“For those still at the Isolation centre, we promise to improve on their welfare and support them to recover fully.”

On his part, Ali Kwajafa, the chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) in Borno said that 40 health workers who tested positive for having contact with the first index case in the state, have also recovered.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Governor Babagana Zulum had through an Executive Order imposed a total lockdown of Borno state as the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the state rises to three.

Governor Zulum announced the lockdown which will take effect from 10.30pm on Wednesday, April 22, in a state-wide broadcast on Monday night, April 20.

Two more COVID-19 cases in Borno were confirmed by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Monday night, bringing Borno’s total to three.

Governor Zulum said the lockdown would be for an initial period of 14 days, adding that the human and vehicular restrictions exclude “providers of essential services.”

According to him, all citizens and other residents are to stay in their home while all public gatherings are restricted. All offices and businesses in Borno state are also expected to be fully closed during the lockdown.
