Coronation Street viewers praise ‘legend’ Alya for standing up to Geoff
by Rishma DosaniCoronation Street viewers were full of praise of Alya Nazir (Sair Khan) as she locked Geoff Metcalfe (Ian Bartholomew) out of his house, on his return from hospital.
Geoff sought treatment from doctors after wife Yasmeen (Shelley King) stabbed him while fearing for her life in a heated row – as their harrowing abuse storyline came to a head.
However, his homecoming didn’t quite go to plan when Alya and Ryan changed the locks on him – as punishment for his treatment of her grandmother.
‘Until you apologise, you’re not coming in,’ she told him through the window.
When Tim (Joe Duttine) fumes that Geoff was the victim, she added: ‘It’s self defence because she was scared for her life.
‘You are never coming near me or any of my family every again.’
And fans watching on from home branded Alya a ‘legend’ for her antics.
Flocking to Twitter, one penned: ’Yes Alya lock him out!! Bet Geoff didn’t see that coming in! #Corrie.’
‘Alya is coming close to LEGEND status at this point #Corrie,’ another replied.
‘YES ALYA!! I love this woman!! #Corrie,’ an impressed Twitter user wrote.
While a viewer commented: ‘The LOVE I have for Alya right now omg this storyline really was her character’s finest redemption #corrie.’
Geoff has been emotionally and physically abusing Yasmeen over the last few months, with his wife pushed to the breaking point recently.
She eventually snapped and hit him over the head with a wine bottle as things came to a head, before jabbing him in the neck with a shard.
Despite turning herself into police soon after, there may be another twist in the plot with Geoff confirmed to be leaving Weatherfield.
However, it is not clear what will lead to Ian’s exit.
Speaking to Metro.co.uk, he told us: ’The timelines have been shunted due to the lockdown but I think it’s fair to imagine that it will be this year.
‘What form that comeuppance is is in discussion. We wanted a redemptive ending for Yasmeen obviously and the toughest it’s going to get for her is over the next months.
‘It’s towards the end of the year but the key thing is to impart the right message. For the sake of the people it has impacted we have to tell the right ending with some positivity.’
