President Trump Announces Termination of U.S. Relationship with WHO

President Trump announced on Friday afternoon that the United States will “terminate” our relationship with the World Health Organization (WHO), in a press conference from the White House’s rose garden regarding Chinese relations.

“China’s pattern of misconduct is well-known. For decades, they’ve ripped off the United States like no one has ever done before. Hundreds of billions of dollars per year were lost dealing with China, especially over the years during the prior administration. China raided our factories, off-shored our jobs, gutted our industries, stole our intellectual property and violated their commitments under the World Trade Organization...they are considered a developing nation, and get all sorts of benefits that other nations, including the United States, are not entitled to,” the president said.

President Trump touted “fair” and “reciprocal” trade deals with China under his administration. He pointed to China’s cover-up of the severity of COVID-19, which resulted in a detrimental global pandemic, costing thousands of lives worldwide. President Trump condemned the WHO’s complicity with China’s negligence, and elected to cut U.S. ties with the organization:

While condemning the Chinese government, President Trump reaffirmed his support for pro-Democracy citizens in Hong Kong. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said yesterday that Hong Kong has lost its autonomy, but the administration is committed to ensuring that policies which encroach on Hong Kong’s freedom come to an end:
