Arsenal could reportedly sign striker that has impressed both Thierry Henry and Robert Pires

by

Arsenal could reportedly sign Lyon striker Moussa Dembele this summer as the Gunners begin to weigh up potential Alexandre Lacazette replacements – and the former Celtic star has certainly caught the eye of both Robert Pires and Thierry Henry.

Lacazette is being strongly linked with an Arsenal exit this summer. Both Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan have been linked in recent weeks, with Lacazette’s future up in the air – after Mikel Arteta dropped him for Eddie Nketiah.

Still one of the Gunners’ top players, Lacazette will need replacing. French newspaper L’Equipe claim Arsenal have identified 23-year-old Dembele as a potential addition. He has starred for Lyon in his second season with the French club.

Joining Lyon from Celtic in 2018, Dembele netted 20 goals in 46 appearances while also laying on six assists. This time around, he has improved his scoring rate – netting 22 times in 42 games, while creating seven more.

Little surprise, then, that Arsenal are interested – and the Gunners may have to spend £60million (Star) to sign him. Indeed, Dembele has even impressed Gunners legends Pires and Henry.

Henry told Sky, as per The Sun before his move to Lyon: “He can play, he can score, it might be time for him to play in a big league. He has all the attributes.”

Pires told the Daily Mail, upon his move to Lyon from Celtic in 2018: “I think he can help Lyon. He is fast, has very good skills and can score goals. He looks like he will be very important to that team.”

TBR’s view – Is Dembele a good signing for Arsenal?

The Gunners need a striker. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is likely to leave this summer and if he remains, he will more than certainly depart next summer. Lacazette, meanwhile, needs to be offloaded after a very disappointing season.

Even if he does cost £60million, Dembele is a top signing. Reaching 20 goals in his two season for Lyon in both campaigns, he is a goal machine and not just a one-season wonder. A no-brainer, especially given Pires and Henry’s comments.
