Watch Jay Leno Drive Tesla Cybertruck Through Boring Company Tunnel

It's a tight fit, to say the least.

Back in January, Jay Leno and Elon Musk were spied taking the Tesla Cybertruck for a spin around Crenshaw Boulevard while filming for an episode of Jay Leno's Garage. Now, we finally get to see the full segment featuring the Cybertruck that recently aired on CBNC. The segment begins with Elon Musk and Tesla's senior designer Franz Von Holzhausen discussing the Cybertruck's striking science fiction-inspired design.

With its peculiar wedge-shaped design, the Cybertruck certainly stands out from other conservative pickup trucks. "I think there's a preconceived notion of what a pickup truck should be", Franz Von Holzhausen explained. "We said 'if we're going to go bold, we need to do something that breaks that norm."

Leno was also blown away by the design after seeing it in person for the first time. "Nothing strikes you until you see it in person," he said. A touch of a button slides the motorized tonneau bed cover open, revealing the spacious six-foot bed. To demonstrate how the strong cover will help protect valuable cargo, Elon Musk confidently walks on top of the bed cover. Fortunately, the cover doesn't break in contrast to the demonstration during the Cybertruck's reveal event when the "shatterproof" glass was smashed.

The time then comes for Jay Leno to get behind the wheel of the Tesla Cybertruck for the first time. During the test drive, Elon Musk reveals to Leno that he believes the prototype is "five percent too big," suggesting that the production model will have smaller proportions to enable it to fit inside a standard garage. Some small details such as the sloping glass may also change when the Cybertruck enters production.

However, since the episode was recorded Elon Musk announced on Twitter that the production version will be a similar size to the prototype, which measures 231.7 inches long, 79.8 inches wide, and 75 inches tall. Musk added that Tesla will likely introduce a "smaller, tight world truck at some point." As for why Musk thinks it's important for the Cybertruck to be bulletproof? "Because it's badass", he said. "We want to be a leader in apocalypse technology."

After taking the Cybertruck for a cruise, Elon Musk then dares Leno to drive the massive electric pickup truck through the Boring Company's narrow test tunnel. This is the first time the Cybertruck has been driven through the Boring Company tunnel, and it's a tight squeeze to say the least.
