George Floyd and Derek Chauvin Were Co-Workers at the Same Nightclub

According to reports, George Floyd and former officer Derek Chauvin who knelt on his neck and killed him were actually co-workers in the past. Maya Santamaria, former owners of El Nuevo Rodeo club, says Floyd and Chauvin both worked security at the club until the end of last year. Santamaria told reporters, "Chauvin was our off-duty police for almost the entirety of the 17 years that we were open," adding, "They were working together at the same time, it's just that Chauvin worked outside and the security guards were inside." 

While the two worked at the club during the same time, Santamaria didn't go as far as to say they knew one another. Santamaria said she didn't recognize the men in the now-viral video were former security guards of hers. "My friend sent me (the video) and said this is your guy who used to work for you and I said, 'It's not him.' And then they did the closeup and that's when I said, 'Oh my God, that's him,'" she said. "I didn't recognize George as one of our security guys because he looked really different lying there like that."
