KSA clears 369,000 hectares of desert locust swarms

RIYADH: The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture cleared locusts from 369,391 hectares of land in the Kingdom between Feb. 1 and May 28, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

The ministry reported that the locusts’ breeding season in the Kingdom is almost over and said that “monitoring, exploration and control operations were continuous for four months during spring in Riyadh, Qassim, Hail, and Eastern Province.”

The ministry claimed there was a possibility that such “invasions” could be repeated because of the “weak survey and control operations” in neighboring countries.
