The Lagos police command says it has arrested two officers over the death of a teenager.

Tina Ezekwe, a 16-year-old girl, was allegedly shot by policemen at Oworonshoki in Kosofe local government area of the state earlier in the week.

On Friday, the news of her death sparked outrage on Twitter as Nigerians called for justice.

Speaking with TheCable, Bala Elkana, spokesman of the Lagos police command, said two policemen have been arrested in connection with the incident.

“We have commenced investigation into the matter. We have two police officers in custody already,” he said.

Last week, the command had announced the arrest of Okoro Charles, an inspector attached to Ikotun division, for allegedly killing Fatai Oladipupo, a resident.

The police had said the shooting occurred on Wednesday along Obabiyi/Igando road, Ikotun, resulting in the death of the 28-year-old man.

In March 2019, Kolade Johnson, a football fan, was killed during a raid by the anti-cultism unit of the Lagos police command.

Kolade was hit by a stray bullet when men of the anti-cultism fired shots to disperse a crowd in the Mangoro area of Lagos.

Following a nationwide campaign, the police had identified Ogunyemi Olalekan and Godwin Orji, a police inspector and sergeant respectively, as suspects who carried out the shooting.
