Ole Gunnar Solskjaer names dream six-a-side team made up of Man Utd legends
by Freddie KeighleyOle Gunnar Solskjaer has picked his ultimate six-a-side team comprised of Manchester United greats.
The United boss played alongside some of the Red Devils' greatest players during his 11-year stint at Old Trafford.
During that time, Solskjaer won nine major honours with the club including the infamous treble of the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League in 1999.
And the Norway icon found a way to include a number of his treble-winning teammates as well as current superstar Cristiano Ronaldo in his dream team.
However, Solskjaer opted to hand the gloves to Edwin van der Sar over 1999 hero Peter Schmeichel and current shot-stopper David de Gea.
Van der Sar's compatriot Jaap Stam was then given the defensive duties over United legends such as Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic and Gary Neville.
Solskjaer's midfield picks are hard to dispute, with former captain Roy Keane chosen to bring steel to the centre of the park alongside record appearance holder Ryan Giggs and creative powerhouse Paul Scholes.
And rounding off his picks was the selection of mercurial forward and worldwide icon Cristiano Ronaldo - who edged United greats such as Andy Cole, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Wayne Rooney.
The Portugal superstar emerged as one of Europe's hottest talents while a winger with United and has gone on to win countless honours including five Ballons d'Or in a more focal attacking role.
Solskjaer originally planned to include himself in the team but realised his own inclusion took the team to seven players.
“I’d definitely be in it,” Solskjaer told Manchester United’s official YouTube channel when asked to assemble a side of his former teammates.
“If it’s a six-a-side, small pitch, loads of finishing chances, no problem, I’ll be in scoring goals.
“Edwin probably, maybe David [de Gea] but maybe I can’t pick the ones I’m managing so I’d pick Edwin as the keeper.
“I’d have to have Jaap at the back. Giggsy would play with his skills. Cristiano, me, Keano and Scholsey. How many is that?”
