Reports have indicated that Nigerians have started selling COVID-19 diagnostic test kits in black markets.

Chikwe Ihekweazu, the director-general of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) made the disclosure in a media briefing in Abuja on Thursday, May 28, The Cable reports.

Black markets are non-regulated platforms or economies where a series of transactions take place with little respect for established rules.

Ihekweazu urged Nigerians to be very careful when purchasing tests kits from such avenues.

“There is a growing black market on rapid diagnostics test kits in Nigeria, we have to be careful in what we buy, how we use it and how we interpret the results that they provide," he said.

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has been called upon to issue an order for the granting of free access to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in Kgo state.

The call was made on Friday, May 29, by the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) which espressed fears that in nothing drastic is done, there might be an explosion of coronavirus cases in Kogi.

In his statement, the president of NMA, Francis Faduyile, noted that the refusal of the state government to allow NCDC personnel to carry out necessary tests on persons portends serious danger.

Faduyile stated that the Kogi government's position is trapping persons in ignorance and untold risk.

He suggested that to prevent interference from the government, testing facilities should be established on the president's order in Army Barracks or any other secured location.

In another report, the Cross River government has taken a swipe at the federal government accusing it of not showing concern to the state amid the spread of the coronavirus pandemic in Nigeria.

According to The Guardian, the state government expressed unhappiness the response attitude of the Nigerian government in assisting with fight against the pandemic.

Dr. Betta Edu, the state commissioner for health while briefing journalists on Friday, May 29, said that since the last visit of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) nothing has come out of it after they made a lot of promises.

Edu, who also doubles as the Chairman, COVID-19 Response Team, urged President Muhammadu Buhari and the NCDC to support the prevention in Cross River saying: "disease control should be your pride and not your shame.”
