by Cian DunneThe FAI is asking the public to select Ireland's greatest ever starting XI on social media.
The online polls began on Twitter on May 25, with the goalkeeper and defence now selected.
Shay Given was picked between the sticks, with the back four consisting of Seamus Coleman, Richard Dunne, Paul McGrath and Denis Irwin.
Given nailed down the keeper position in convincing fashion, with 70.7% of the votes.
Italia ‘90 hero Packie Bonner was second, receiving 24.9% of the votes.
Current Ireland captain Seamus Coleman received 53.4%, firing past the likes of Gary Kelly, Stephen Carr and Steve Finnan at full-back.
Denis Irwin was the overwhelming favourite for left back with a total of 80.3% of all votes for the former Man United star, with Ian Harte and Steve Staunton among those to miss out.
Richard Dunne and Paul McGrath were named as the centre-backs, forming a rock-solid partnership, with Charlie Hurley, Mick McCarthy, Mark Lawrenson, John O’Shea and Kevin Moran all honourable mentions.
The debate continues on Twitter as fans get set to select midfielders and forwards in the all-time Ireland XI.
