Alaska on 'crazy party train wreck' experience of RuPaul's Drag Race fame
by Jamie TabbererAlaska has discussed the downside of winning RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars in 2016, calling the time following a ‘crazy party train wreck’.
The star was the winner of the second series of All Stars, after finishing as runner up on the 2013 series of RPDR.
Speaking about her then-rising profile, Alaska told The Guardian: ‘As soon as the cast [for All Stars] was announced I was making more money than I ever had doing drag. And there’s a lot that comes with that.
‘My relationship with Sharon [Needles, winner of season 4] went to s***, suddenly everywhere you go the answer is yes: free drinks? Drugs? Boys?
‘All of a sudden, every door is open, and we didn’t have the tools or discipline, so we went in all those doors.’
Sounds… intense.
Alaska is now one of the most famous names from the RPDR franchise, and was last year named the seventh most powerful drag queen in America by New York Magazine.
Alaska’s interview precedes the final of RuPaul’s Drag Race season 12, which reaches its climax tomorrow [Saturday 30 May 2020].
The finalists fighting it out for the crown Gigi Goode, Jaida Essence Hall and Crystal Method.
Then, All Stars will return for its fifth season on 5 June 2020, with fan favourites such as Jujubee and Miz Cracker returning to the stage to battle it out for a place in the All Stars Hall of Fame alongside Alaska, Trixie Mattel, Chad Michaels, Monét X Change and Trinity the Tuck.
