AC Milan have been linked with a shock move for former Derby County star Jeff Hendrick.

According to Sky Sports, the Italian giants have expressed an interest in signing the Burnley midfielder.

Hendrick moved to Turf Moor in 2016 for around £13 million after eight years at the club.

The 28-year-old moved from his native Republic of Ireland to join the Rams ' academy in 2008.

He made his debut in 2010 and became a fan favourite when he scored the winner in the East Midlands Derby against Nottingham Forest the following year.

After 196 League appearances with the club, he moved to the Premier League after a fine campaign with Ireland at Euro 2016.

He has made 122 Premier League outings for the Clarets but is out of contract with the club at the end of June.

Reports claim that Milan made their interest known before the coronavirus pandemic and Burnley have apparently entered into negotiations about keeping the 54-cap international.

Other Premier League clubs are interested, too, with Newcastle United linked at the end of March.

Top flight action is due to return next month but, if Hendrick doesn't agree a new deal, he won't be able to play any part past June 30.

Hendrick has made 24 appearances in the Premier League this season, scoring two goals and registering a pair of assists.
