Six more people have died from COVID-19 as well as 39 new cases today
by Sophie CollinsHealth Officials have reported this evening that 6 people with COVID-19 have died bringing the total to 1,645 in Ireland.
As of midnight Thursday, May 28, there have been 39 newly confirmed cases of COVID-19.
There is now a total of 24,876 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ireland.
Dr. Tony Holohan, Chief Medical Officer, Department of Health, said; "As we approach the last week of Phase 1 it is encouraging to see ICU and hospital admissions declining, the number of new cases remaining stable and a 90% recovery rate in the community.
"Moving into next week, I would urge everyone to look back at the progress we have made over the past number of weeks and maintain our efforts to suppress COVID-19 into the future."
The news comes after An Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar, said that both primary and secondary schools will reopen by the end of August for the start of the academic year.
He said; "We know that it's not a no-risk scenario but it is a low-risk scenario.
"We are learning from the experience of countries that have at least partially reopened schools already, and from the experience of countries that have had to reimpose restrictions."
