Brit jetting to Spain to have 'temperatures taken before flying and after landing'
by Andy Rudd, Gerard Couzens, https://www.mirror.co.uk/authors/andy-rudd/British holidaymakers jetting to the Spanish Costas this summer will have their temperatures taken before they take off and after they leave the plane, it has been reported.
UK tourists will also be asked to fill in a form explaining whether they have suffered any Covid-19 symptoms before they are let into Spain.
Respected Spanish daily El Mundo said they would additionally have to consent to a visual test, and provide contact details including the name of their hotel and mobile number so their health status can be checked if necessary during their stay.
It quoted Spanish Foreign Office sources saying the measures were among a package of “likely conditions” foreign holidaymakers including Brits would be expected to adhere to so they can visit Spain from July 1.
Covid-19 tests, favoured by authorities in areas like the Canary Islands and Ibiza, have not been ruled out.
Reports in Spain said they were “on the table” but could end up being rejected because the more reliable PCR tests take six hours and would not show up ‘positives’ where tourists had caught the virus on the plane from another passenger.
Spain is trying to push for a EU-wide policy on how to make sure tourists arriving from abroad do not pose a risk and are not put at risk.
PM Pedro Sanchez made his “safety in origin and safety in destination” message a keynote of his TV address last Saturday when he said foreign holidaymakers would be welcomed back from July once the country’s 14-day quarantine on people entering the country was lifted.
Regional government chiefs and town hall leaders have also prioritised peoples’ safety in their public messages.
Benidorm mayor Toni Perez said the resort’s beaches would not open on Monday despite being allowed to do so under a central government-led easing of coronavirus restrictions.
Beaches in the Costa Blanca resort are set to open in mid-June and tourists will be ordered to leave the sand at lunchtime before being allowed back in the afternoon as part of an attempt to keep numbers down and encourage rotation so as many people as possible get to enjoy the coastline.
