The body of a woman found at a country park was in several parts, according to reports.

Police have not formally identified the woman but she was named locally as mum Yvonne Lawson McCann.

A murder investigation was launched after "human remains" were found at Reddish Vale Country Park in Stockport at around 10.30am on Monday, May 25.

Police said they believed they belonged to a woman in her 40s.

Yvonne, also known as Vonnie, lived close to the park in Brinnington. It is understood she was a mother.

The Manchester Evening News reported that her body was found in several pieces.

Formal identification has not yet taken place, but police said the woman's next of kin has been informed.

A 48-year-old man has been arrested of suspicion of murder. He remains in custody for questioning.

Large sections of Reddish Vale park have been closed off to the public in recent days, with officers guarding numerous entrances.

A police cordon was in place on Northumberland Road, with forensic officers and tactical aid unit officers at the scene. There was also a large police presence on Lapwing Lane and Moat Walk.

Police were seen taking sniffer dogs into the park off Blackberry Lane and flying a drone over the land.

Floral tributes have been left outside on the doorstep of a home nearby.

A person who lives near the park said: “It’s madness. You don’t expect this on your own doorstep. It’s just shocking to hear that something like this has happened.”

Detective Superintendent Neil Jones, of GMP’s Major Incident Team, said in a statement on Tuesday morning: “This is an absolutely devastating incident.

"First and foremost, our thoughts are with the victim’s loved ones and specialist officers will do everything they can to support them.

“Understandably, this news may cause concern within the community but I would like to provide some reassurance by saying that, at this time, we believe that this was an isolated incident.
