Adorable boy, 7, throws prom for nanny after coronavirus canceled hers
by Jimmy McCloskeyA kind-hearted seven year-old boy threw a special prom for his nanny after the coronavirus pandemic canceled her official end-of-school celebration. Curtis Rogers was upset to hear his babysitter Rachel Chapman’s bash had been axed, so suggested throwing her his own surprise prom to cheer the teenager up.
Curtis’s mom Elissa, from Raleigh in North Carolina, loved the idea, and helped her son organize a ‘promposal’, three-course dinner and a playlist of Curtis and Rachel’s favorite music.
She shared the heartwarming event on Facebook, and wrote: ‘Tonight Curtis hosted a “Mini-Prom” for Rachel, our amazing nanny whose Senior Prom was cancelled.
‘He planned almost everything including the promposal, the fancy table to eat at, the 3 course menu, and the playlist of their favorite songs. It wasn’t the prom any of us expected but it was an incredible night.’
Elissa said Curtis was so excited about the prom that he even ensured his smart bow tie complemented the color of Rachel’s dress, with the friends enjoying their favorite fried chicken from Chick-Fil-A.
The thoughtful mom used a pool noodle to help Curtis understand current social distancing measures. Curtis hadn’t seen Rachel for two months, and was understandably excited at having the chance to catch up.
Speaking to WTVD afterwards, Curtis said: ‘Rachel is one of our favorite people and Rachel’s like the best nanny ever.’ And Rachel herself was wowed by the surprise, telling the TV station: ‘It was very sweet of him, really thoughtful.
‘It was the first time I saw him in two months after seeing him like every day. It was just like really fun and I’m really glad that he did that.’
