Former Derby County striker Andreas Weimann has been told to move to Aston Villa.

Gabby Agbonlahor, a former team-mate of Weimann at Villa, has urged the winger to make a return to his old club.

Weimann is at Bristol City, moving to the club in 2017 after three seasons with the Rams.

He was one of Paul Clement's first signings for Derby in June 2015, moving from Villa where he had been since 2007.

The Austrian international has been with City since Frank Lampard sold him to the Ashton Gate side in July 2018.

Weimann endured a tough time at the Rams, playing under six managers including caretakers during his spell at the club.

His most effective game was in the play-off semi-final at Hull City in 2016, where he nearly helped the Rams erase a deficit from the home leg, losing 3-2 on aggregate at the KCOM Stadium after winning 2-0.

The 28-year-old's form has picked up this season, with nine goals and three assists to his game for the play-off chasing Robins.

Weimann bagged ten goals in the Championship last season and recorded five assists, including a stunning hat-trick at Sheffield United.

The former Wolverhampton Wanderers loanee bagged 24 times during his time with Villa, including 17 goals at League level.

And Agbonalhor, perhaps with his tongue in his cheek, has asked Weimann to come back to Villa Park.

"Some player Andy, come back to Villa," he said on Instagram.

Dean Smith's side are back in the Premier League after a three-season absence following their 2-1 win over Derby at Wembley last year.

They are currently in 19th place with ten games to go ahead of the restart of the campaign.

Weimann joined Villa from Rapid Wien 13 years ago.
