Emergency services were rushed to Pier Head on Thursday afternoon to deal with a concern for safety.
HM Coastguard Crosby and police were called at about 3pm yesterday.
Pictures showed a large emergency service presence on the usually busy city centre location.
Officers said they were called following reports of concern for the safety of a woman.
A spokeswoman for the force said: "We were called to the Pier Head at around 3pm yesterday following reports of concern for the safety of a woman.
"Patrols attended and the woman was left in the care of the NHS."
