Girl, 8, honours nation's NHS heroes with very own rainbow sunglasses

A caring eight-year-old has honoured the nation’s NHS heroes – with her own rainbow sunglasses.

London schoolgirl Loa was inspired by the rainbow motifs displayed in millions of homes up and down the country.

The frames have two clouds, which you can look through, with a rainbow connecting them together.

Her design was picked as the winner out of hundreds of entries for Cubitts’ Founders Choice Frame Design Award.

Loa’s hand-drawn sketch was transformed into a one-off pair for the budding designer, created in Cubitts’ London workshop.

The crafty construction took 72 hours to complete as multiple layers of coloured acetate were meticulously cut and joined together for the final frames.

Loa, whose surname is not being made public, said: “It was a dream come true.

"The best, most amazing memory ever. Thank you Cubitts for making my design.”

Her dad Jet added: “Thanks to Cubitts so much for a memorable experience for Loa.”

Tom Broughton, founder of Cubitts said: “Loa’s design captures the nation’s spirit of looking out for those we love, and remembering the everyday heroes we rely on so much.

“Her design inspired us to give back what we can as a small business, so NHS staff can receive a 40 per cent discount until 11th June 2020.”

Cubitts’ 10 stores have been closed during the lockdown but are set to begin opening again from July.
