Blaze at waste management company causes clouds of smoke in Bolton

Crews tackled the fire for around an hour this morning

Firefighters have been tackling a blaze at a waste management company in Farnworth.

Crews were called to reports of a fire at Lavelle Waste Services, in Gladstone Road, at around 8.45am.

Billowing clouds of smoke were seen in the area while firefighters dealt with the incident, which was caused by a fire involving a pile of rubbish.

One engine from Farnworth was at the scene for an hour and no one was hurt.

A Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “We were called at around 8.45am today to a fire in an industrial yard in Gladstone Road, Farnworth.

“One fire engine from Farnworth attended and a found a fire involving a quantity of rubbish. Crews used two hose reels and one jet and were on the scene for around an hour.”
