The PlayStation 5 reveal event is coming on 4th June

by

Sony have announced the date and time of the PlayStation 5 reveal event, inviting us all to tune in and watch at 9PM BST / 10PM CEST on 4th June.

The rumours of the reveal event were almost true, after Bloomberg’s sources suggested that it would be on 3rd June. Either way, we should expect to see plenty of juice game announcements, trailers and probably a healthy dose of actual on-console gameplay.

Even though they got the date wrong, Bloomberg do suggest that this will be the first of several presentations, similar to how Microsoft are spreading out their next-gen reveals across a series of monthly Xbox 20/20 streams. “Other PlayStation 5 events may follow in the coming weeks and months,” Bloomberg say, “and Sony is not expected to reveal every essential detail on the console during its first presentation.”

One key detail is the all important price, but VentureBeat’s Jeff Grub has warned not to expect that to be revealed just yet. Will we get a release date, though?

“The company seems aware of the backlash that Microsoft faced for its first Xbox 20/20 event,” he said. “Fans were unhappy with the lack of gameplay at that presentation. In response, Sony wants to rely on PS5 games that are actually running on real hardware.”

Games for the new consoles are being announced regularly now, with Bungie confirming that it will be releasing Destiny 2 on PS5 and Xbox Series X. The news came via a Tweet the company posted in reply to the official Xbox account which had listed the developers that would be creating games for the Xbox Series X.

Recently the Unreal engine developer Epic suggested that the hardware will blow even the best PC gaming rigs out of the water thanks tot he ultra-fast SSD.

Epic CEO and founder Tim Sweeney was speaking on the Summer Game Fest stream and said “The hardware that Sony is launching is absolutely phenomenal. Not only an unprecedented amount of graphics power, but also a completely new storage architecture that blows past architectures out of the water and is far ahead of even the state-of-the-art, highest-end PCs you can buy.”

Right, now to quietly rock back and forth in anticipation for the next six days…
