Kenya records 127 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours

17 patients have been discharged from hospital in the last 24 hours bringing the number of recoveries to 438

Kenya on Friday reported 127 new Covid-19 cases from 3,831 samples tested raising the country’s tally of infections to 1,747 and the death toll to 62.  Health CAS Dr Mercy Mwangangi said during the daily update that four more patients succumbed to the disease bringing the total number of fatalities to 62. On a positive note, Mwangangi (pictured) announced that 17 patients were discharged  from hospital bringing the number of recoveries 438.

“Today, we have recorded another high of 127 people testing positive out of 3,831 samples tested. The cumulative tests conducted so far is 74, 003,” she said. Of the new cases, Nairobi County has 76 followed by Mombasa with 19 as Busia recorded 16, Uasin Gishu (8), Kajiado (5), Kiambu (2) and Isiolo (1). In Nairobi County, Kibra is the worst hit with 49 cases, Ruaraka (13), Makadara (4), Westland (4), Langata (2), Starehe and Kasarani one case each. In Mombasa, Kisauni has recorded  (7) cases, Mvita (6), Nyali (3), Likoni (2) and Jomvu has one case. In Uasin Gishu, all the eight (8) cases are from Turbo while in Kiambu county, one case is from Kiambu town and another from Kabete.

In Busia County, eight (8) cases are from Busia, six (6) from Alupe quarantine facility while two (2) are from Malaba town. In Kajiado, two cases are from Kajiado North, while Namanga border has three. The CAS said the high number of positive cases being recorded in the past few days is as a result of the rising sample size. “Our sample size has grown which makes the numbers go up,” she said. Mwangangi also warned against what she described as a worrying trend of people sneaking in and out of Nairobi and Mombasa saying it will spread the diseas to other counties.

“We have observed a worrying trend of people who use panya routes to sneak out Nairobi and Mombasa. They should stop because they are endangering other people’s lives,” she said.
