Xiaomi Mi Laptop in India to Focus on Creators, Students and Gamers - Don't Expect Affordable Price - Gizchina.com

by

A couple of days ago, Xiaomi‘s India CEO Manu Kumar Jain teased the launch of Mi laptops in the country. While everyone was expecting a Redmi lineup of laptops, the Chinese smartphone confirmed that it will bring the Mi Laptop instead. Soon after that, Xiaomi India’s official Twitter channel calls out other laptop manufacturers such as Dell, Acer, HP, and Lenovo. The brand was again clearly suggesting the possible Mi laptops launch.

Xiaomi Now Talks More About Mi Laptop – Price, Target Audience

After a couple of teasers, Xiaomi India’s chief business officer Raghu Reddy decided to reveal some more details about the product. In a recent interview with EconomicTimes, Reddy clearly mentioned that the Mi Range of laptops will not follow the affordability model. Furthermore, the range of laptops will focus primarily on students, creators, and gamers in the country. While a student will prefer an affordable option, the latter two would need some decent performance under the hood.

This suggests that we will see some high performance focussed Mi laptops from the brand while a less powerful option at an average price for students. It is worth mentioning again that there might not be an affordable option. That makes sense since the company follows the affordability model with its Redmi brand. The Mi lineup, on the other hand, focusses on a bit premium segment.

As per the interview, Xiaomi will not flood the market with too many options like they did with its smartphone portfolio. Talking about the launch availability, the laptop will see its official unveiling before the big festive season i.e. Diwali. Considering the current lockdown situation and the increase in demand for work from home and online school, Xiaomi might end up launching it sooner.

Thin and Lightweight Laptops Gaining Popularity

Back in 2018, we saw Asus launching numerous thin and lightweight laptops in almost every single price segment. In fact, they were offering some powerful specs at competitive pricing. Soon, numerous companies followed the suit. As of 2019, India has witnessed a 70-80 percent growth in thin and lightweight laptop space. Furthermore, that year alone also saw a 30 percent overall growth in the market.

Since Xiaomi mainly focusses on the thin and lightweight segment, the smartphone maker might end up driving consumers. An aggressive price strategy might also play in favor of the brand. With that said, it would be interesting to see how Mi laptops actually perform in the market.
