The definitive list of Notts cafes, restaurants, bars and pubs that have reopened
More and more are returning to a new way of working
by Lynette PinchessNottingham's vibrant food and drink scene suffered a major blow when lockdown descended and it's far from being out of the woods.
But there is a beacon of hope in this strange new normal taking over the UK as it eases out of lockdown.
Restaurants, cafes, bars, pubs and fast food takeaways are gradually springing back to life but it's completely different set-up with takeaway and delivery services.
Expect Perspex screens in front of counters and tills, staff possibly wearing masks, one-way systems, and strict controls on how many people are admitted at any one time when picking up an order.
Here's where we're at across the city centre, Nottinghamshire, and Long Eaton:
Delilah Fine Foods
Within 24 hours of lockdown the usually buzzing deli had turned into a farm shop in the city, supplying boxes containing essentials such as milk and bread and Delilah treats for collection and home delivery.
Hampers with a little lockdown luxury, ordered online, were transported around the UK as well as locally.
But this Saturday (May 30) the shop, in Victoria Street, will be serving takeaway food. On the menu are muffins, supplied by Hambleton Bakery, with fillings including sausage and egg and halloumi, mushrooms and ayvar, and sandwiches such as gorgonzola and grilled artichoke and roast beef and horseradish.
All are made fresh in-store but can be pre-ordered for collection at food@delilahfinefoods.co.uk
The whole shop has been reorganised for social distancing to keeps visitors safe and staff have PPE.
The new opening hours are Tuesday to Saturday 9am until 5pm.
Pieminister
If you're missing those comforting pies - just what you need in a crisis - fear not. They're available by post.
Mix and match a box of 12 - that might seem a lot of pie (or maybe not!) but they can be frozen for up to six months.
Choose from all the classics including Moo and Blue, Chicken of Aragon, Heidi and Free Ranger. Vegan and gluten free options are also available.
Check it out at pieminister.co.uk
Chaska
The new Indian restaurant in Lenton had just got off the ground when lockdown happened.
Instead of serving diners in the vibrant surroundings of the Lenton Boulevard site, it has switched to delivery and collection.
The reduced lockdown menu has street food starters, curry bowls, sides and drinks.
Order between 6pm-9pm by calling 0115 8412132 or via Uber Eats.
Cured
Once upon a time the cafe bar would be busy with commuters popping in for a quick drink on their way to the train station, students, and well, just about anyone who liked the laid back surroundings near the canal, in Carrington Street.
After the closure in March, it's back to business with a pizzas and pints deal, coffee, bagels and refreshing smoothies all for takeaway.
200 Degrees
The two city centre coffee shops, in Carrington Street and Flying Horse Walk, have both reopened.
As well as freshly roasted coffee, the full range of hot and cold drinks and a selection of pre-wrapped cakes and sweet treats, are available for anyone working in the city or passers-by taking their daily exercise.
To fall in line with social distancing regulations, a limited number of customers are allowed into the shops at any one time and floor markings are in place to help customers move around the shop safely.
Only two members of staff are working behind the counter which has new Perspex screens in place and payments are cashless only, either via card or the digital 200 Degrees app.
Emilios Greek Restaurant
Those missing the Arnold restaurant can still enjoy the Mediterranean flavours by takeout or delivery.
All the favourite starters, main courses, grills and mezze are on offer to tuck into at home - with 20 percent off the usual restaurant prices.
Telephone 0115 926 2550 for delivery.
Oscar & Rosie's
It's with a mix of exhilaration and fear for the owner of the pizzeria as it bounces back this weekend with a drive-thru.
On Friday and Saturday nights pizzas will be delivered to cars outside in Stoney Street (or you can walk up to the door if not in a car).
However, there's rules. You must order online and there are limited slots for collection. Most slots for this first weekend have already been filled.
