Global Covid-19 Tally Rises To Over 58.31 Lakh, Death Toll Crosses 3.6 Lakh Mark

The total confirmed cases of Coronavirus infection on Friday (29 May) surged to over 58.29 lakh globally, while the fatalities due to the deadly virus, which originated in China’s Wuhan city, have increased to more than 3.60 lakh, according to the Johns Hopkins University.

The total number of cases stood at 5,831,165 globally on Friday, while the death toll increased to 360,860, the University's Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed in its latest update.

As many as 2,430,343 people have recovered from the disease globally, the CSSE data showed.

The United States has so far reported 1,721,926 confirmed cases, and 101,621 deaths, both tallies account for the highest in the world, according to the CSSE.

Meanwhile, in terms of cases, Brazil comes in second place with 438,238 infections.

This was followed by Russia (387,623), the UK (270,508), Spain (237,906), Italy (231,732), France (186,364), Germany (182,450), India (165,799), Turkey (160,979), Iran (143,849), and Peru (141,779), the CSSE figures showed.

Regarding fatalities, the UK continues in the second position after the US with 37,919 Covid-19 deaths, the highest fatalities in Europe.

The other countries with over 10,000 deaths are Italy (33,142), France (28,655), Spain (27,119), and Brazil (26,754).
