Pataal Lok Finds Itself In Yet Another Controversy, Slapped With Legal Notice Over Negative Portrayal Of Sikhs
by Swarajya StaffAmazon Web Series Pataal Lok has found itself in yet another controversy after Akali Dal leader Majinder S Sirsa has sent a legal notice to its creators for hurting the sentiments of Sikhs by showing them as rapists.
The legal notice has sent to both Amazon and the directors of Pataal Lok by Sirsa in the capacity of Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee.
Sirsa alleges that one scene in the Web Series depicts a Sikh raping an elderly woman in front of other members of the community. This Sirsa says has “clandestinely denigrated the image of Sikhs all over the world”.
While stating the importance of equality between men and women in Sikh traditions, Sirsa tells the web series creators how Sikhs have saved thousands of women and girls from the clutches of Mughals.
Calling the rape scene an “illegal and unlawful abuse of culture and faith” the legal notice states that the scene is “nothing but a mere abuse of religious sentiments of the Sikh community”.
The notice thus demands that the rape scene be deleted within 24 hours of receiving the legal notice and that the filmmakers unconditionally apologise to the Sikh Sangat. The notice warns that if the filmmakers fail to comply then civil and criminal proceedings would be initiated against them.
