Recently George Floyd’s death has sparked violent protests ever since the video of a white police officer pressing his knee on Floyd’s neck, until he was unresponsive, went viral on social media. George, an African American man, kept pleading the officers to stop and that he can’t breathe, until he went limp. The four police officers involved have been fired and an FBI investigation has been initiated. In the wake of this incident, a contrasting police incident involving Denzel Washington has surfaced.
A video put up on Twitter by NBA player Rex Chapman shows Denzel intervening police and helping out a distressed, homeless man. Rex wrote on Twitter, “saw a commotion in West Hollywood with cops and an unarmed distressed homeless man.” He further added, “He got out of his car and served as a barrier between the man and the police — helping to diffuse a tense situation. This man was arrested safely.” Another video uploaded by user @MoPhoPix shows an LA cop explaining as to how the actor dressed in regular clothes helped out during the incident.
In the footage, the sergeant was quoted saying “Denzel drove by, saw the individual on the road, and was worried about his safety.” He also added, “We intervened, spoke with the individual and determined that he did not want to harm himself or others, and he was on his way, and Denzel left.” Meanwhile, Twitter has since then, branded Denzel as a hero, and his name began trending on Twitter.
