Mira Bhayandar: 26 new COVID-19 positive cases, two deaths on Friday
by Mumbai MirrorMumbai: The metropolitan satellite township of Mira Bhayandar continued with the present spurt in the number of COVID-19 cases as 26 more persons tested positive for the virus on Friday. This includes two patients who succumbed in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 22.
The Mira Bhayander Municipal Corporation (MBMC) had breached the 600 mark on Thursday when 28 persons had tested positive for the infection. The positive tally moved to 631 on Friday with the inclusion of the 26 new positive cases.
The two deaths included a 42-year-old man from near the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, R N Park area in Bhayandar (East) who was an isolated positive case and died during treatment on May 26. The death was reported on Friday. The details of the other casualty are still awaited.
MBMC sources said that of the 26 positive cases reported on Friday, 17 were isolated instances while the rest 9 were contacts of people who had earlier tested positive.
At present, there are 224 active positive cases in the municipal area while 385 persons have been cured and discharged after treatment from various hospitals.
The MBC had witnessed the sudden spurt in the number of positive cases in the last couple of weeks after reporting single-digit cases since April 20 following the clamping of total shutdown.
Though the MBMC continues with the 7th phase of the total shutdown, certain relaxations, like the opening of opticals, hardware stores, stationery shops, electrical appliances repairing shops, puncture/motor garages have been allowed. Grocery stores, bakery shops and other essential shops have been allowed to open between 11 am and 5 pm while home delivery of vegetables, fruits, mutton, chicken and fish have been allowed between 9 am and 11 pm. A review of the total shutdown is likely to be taken on May 31.
