An Instagram dream (Picture: Starbucks/Metro.co.uk)

The Starbucks Flamingo Frappuccino is the latest drink that's made for Instagram

by

If you’ve ever felt bad for accusing someone of being basic for holding a Pumpkin Spice Latte, erase that guilt.

Starbucks clearly love their basic reputation. They eagerly court those checked-shirt-clad, balayaged-loose-curls-wearing fans.

How do we know? Because Starbucks simply loves to release drinks that have clearly been designed for the purpose of Instagram.

From the ubiquitous siren cups to the misspelled names, you’re guaranteed to spot a Starbucks order when scrolling through your ‘gram, and the brand loves to capitalise on this with colourful drinks – from the pink drink to another’s fetching violet shade – made to look picture-perfect.

Their latest creation is a continuation of that theme: The Ruby Flamingo Frappuccino.

This is a Starbucks drink that ticks off all the tropes. It’s bright pink, so ideally suited to the Instagram of someone proudly basic, or perhaps an internet softgirl with an all-pink Instagram aesthetic.

It also contains a trendy ingredient, this time ruby chocolate. That’s the chocolate that’s naturally pink, FYI, and has been picked up by everyone from Kit-Kat to Magnum.

And it’s a Frappuccino! The most iconic summer drink!

So beyond the aesthetics, what’s actually going on with this new beverage?

Even the whipped cream is pink (Picture: Starbucks)

It’s a Frappuccino, as the name suggests, with ruby chocolate pieces and a raspberry flavoured syrup, on the menu from 4 June to 2 July (so just for four weeks). It’s bright pink and it’s topped with pink whipped cream.

Prices start from £3.45 for a Mini. We are assured that no actual flamingos are involved in the making of this drink.

Some Starbucks stores have reopened for takeaway, while others are offering delivery through UberEats. If you fancy giving the drink a go, it’s worth ordering it online rather than traipsing to your nearest store and hoping for the best (if only because ordering a complicated Frappuccino is challenging enough without a mask muffling your voice).

Starbucks has also launched a Ruby Flamingo Frappuccino emoji on Twitter, just to hammer home how important it is that you share your drink on social media.

If you type #FlamingoFrappuccino or #RubyFlamingoFrappuccino into the Twitter text box, you’ll see a cute little pink frap.

On Instagram, meanwhile, you’ll find flamingo stickers for your Stories – again, search #FlamingoFrappuccino.

If you care only for the aesthetics, you can also trick your followers with the use of some strawberry milk or that Nesquik powder. Or just get creative with Photoshop. It’s not like you’ve got anything else to do right now.
