Man charged with murder after body of mum found at popular country park

A man has been charged with murder after 'human remains' were found at a country park in Stockport.

Thomas McCann, 48, has been remanded in custody to to appear at Manchester Magistrates' Court on Saturday (May 30).

Police were called to Reddish Vale Country Park at around 10.30am on Monday (May 25) after a member of the public found human remains.

Officers believe the remains belong to a woman in her 40s. GMP said her next of kin has been informed, but formal identification has not yet taken place.

The woman has been named locally as Yvonne Lawson McCann. She is understood to have been a mother.

A GMP statement read: "A man has been charged in connection with the discovery of human remains in Stockport.

"Thomas McCann (24/06/71), of Rosslave Walk, Brinnington, has been charged with murder.

"He has been remanded in custody and will appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court on Saturday, May 30.

"At around 10.30am on Monday, May 25, police were called to reports that a member of the public had found human remains in Reddish Vale Country Park.

"Enquiries have led officers to believe that the remains belong to a woman in her 40s. Her next of kin have been informed but formal identification has not yet taken place."
