DC Dimapur, EAC Chumukedima direct
Dimapur, May 29: Noticing that some village/ward authorities, individual and groups have issued “shoot-at-sight” order for pets, especially dogs, which is a punishable offence under Section 3, section 11 (1) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960, Deputy Commissioner, Anoop Khinchi IAS, in an order issued today, said any village/wart authority or any person acting in contravention to this Act would be liable to legal proceedings under Section 428 & 429 of IPC and Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960.
Further, in view of the Covid-19 pandemic and establishment of quarantine centres in different parts of the district, the DC has directed all pet owners to keep their pets within the boundary of their respective house owners.
He further advised pet owners to ensure that their pets do not loiter around the village/colony and that the pets are not a source of nuisance to others.
Meanwhile, EAC Chumukedima has also directed all village/ward/colony authorities to ensure that there is no such order/resolution passed or practiced by any individual/group/organization to shoot cats and dogs under their respective jurisdiction as it contradicts the provisions of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960.
