Facebook Launches 'Venue' Live Sports Companion App

by

The New Product Experimentation team from Facebook has launched Venue, a new app for interacting around live events. Last year, Facebook announced that it would launch experimental apps under the name 'NPE Team, from Facebook'. These apps will get shut down if they don't gain popularity.

Live broadcasts still offer the rare opportunity for millions of people to consume content simultaneously. Despite drawing large concurrent viewership, live broadcasts are still a mostly solo viewing experience. Passionate fans are constantly seeking better ways to engage with other fans and experts around their favorite events. Venue aims to give fans an interactive second screen experience, curated by experts and centered on the pivotal moments of their favorite events. To start, Venue will focus on improving the second screen experiences of sports fans, some of the most passionate fan communities.

To start, Venue has partnered with NASCAR and will provide fans a new way to experience upcoming races while stuck at home.

For the upcoming races, fans should look out for venues hosted by the social media personality, nascarcasm from NASCAR.com, FOX Sports NASCAR reporter Alan Cavanna, and NASCAR driver Landon Cassill. Each venue will offer a unique take on the race and fans can easily join multiple to get different takes on the race.

You can download Venue: Live Sports Companion from the App Store for free.
