A Major Plot Hole From Breaking Bad To Be Fixed In Better Call Saul Season 5

by

Breaking Bad’s major plot hole about Saul’s failed marriages has healed. Vince Gilligan has finally found a way to write around the plot hole in Better Call Saul Season 5.

Better Call Saul is the much-celebrated prequel to hit series Breaking Bad. The show has been around for five very successful seasons now and is also created by Breaking Bad’s show-runner Vince Gilligan. Better Call Saul has been credited by some critics an even better-written storyline than that of Breaking Bad.

The reason for such an incredible honour could be credited to Vince Gilligan’s writing and detail to the characters narrative. And that detail to narrative has previously slipped through a very thin crack of a plot hole that Breaking Bad had. But that crack is now fixed all thanks to its partner in success, Better Call Saul. And this is how it was done.

Better Call Saul Wedding

In the recent instalment of Better Call Saul Season 5, Kim and Jimmy tie the knot in Better Call Saul Season 5, it was a murky affair. They quickly exchanged vows in the most unromantic way possible, the morning before work.

The intention behind this rather sad affair was to protect the couple and prevent Kim from testifying against each other if Jimmy’s illegitimate shenanigans as Saul ever caught up to him. But despite this calculative wedding and Jimmy admitting to working for the drug cartel, there was no love lost between the couple on their figuratively happy day.

And this wedding is where the crack in the plot hole from Breaking Bad finds itself healing through Vince Gilligan’s extremely smart writing.

The Breaking Bad Plot Hole Heals Itself

In the episode of Better Call Saul, there is a subtle moment of confirmation giving evidence to the fact that Vince Gilligan is very well aware of everything he writes. In the documentation part of the ceremony, Jimmy’s two previous marriages crop up in conversation and Kim’s lack of any reaction only proves that she is well aware to being the “third time’s the charm” in Jimmy’s life.

The plot hole actually exposed itself in Breaking Bad when Saul casually mentions his two previously “failed marriages” but no further explanation at the time was given. Saul tells Walter that his second wife cheats on him with his own step-dad establishing Saul as a man married twice.

And the narrative only seemed to get more confusing when the spin-off series to Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul premiered. There were a lot of questions that the audience felt weren’t being answered in the show.

As the character Kim is never seen in Breaking Bad, her introduction left the audience wondering who exactly she was. Was she one of the wives? When did Jimmy remarry? Etc. The only reference to any of Saul’s ex-wives was made in Season 1 when he mentioned that his first wife had also cheated on him.

How Vince Gilligan Brought This On Himself

The front-runner himself admits that Saul talking about his wife who cheats on in Breaking Bad was a throwaway line. At that point he wasn’t aware of the implications that would one day come with one single sentence.

Jimmy finally saying that he had married twice in the same line while marrying Kim finally put things into perspective. Kim’s further nonchalance makes this odd-truth more believable. And Gilligan proves himself once again the master of writing and his craft.
