A million candles burning for the help that never came. You wanted it darker… We kill the flame!

All the gameplay details you need to know about Assassin’s Creed Valhalla releasing Holiday 2020

The Assassin’s Creed series is an award-winning video game that takes you back to the most fascinating moments of Norse history. You can be a human yet feel like God at that moment. Ubisoft’s AC series has eleven main games, seventeen spin-off games, several short films and various transmedia projects.

Each main game has spawned novelizations, adapting and adding to the story of their respective game. Each iteration ties back to the main narrative taking the player deeper into the mythological world. Consider it a little above the Batman comic-to-film adaptation. The joker is back. You get the gist!

Heads Up! Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is set to take you to unchartered lands for more blood

Canadian studio Ubisoft Montreal developed the entire AC franchise and is published by Ubisoft. With the exception of Assassin’s Creed: Altaïr’s Chronicles and the mobile version of Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood. Which are developed by Gameloft Studio.

Whereas other iterations like Assassin’s Creed Chronicles is developed by Climax Studios, Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate and Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey by Ubisoft Québec.

The gameplay varies slightly from game to game. However, all games fall in the historic action-adventure genre, with a heavy emphasis on stealth, visceral combat and native-environment exploration, much like any action RPG with an added climax in the storyline.

The Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Debut

Much anticipated trailer of the year, AC saga’s new entrant premiered on 30 April 2020. The game’s storyline is set during The Viking Age which is not for the faint-hearted yet detailed trailer reveals Ubisoft’s upcoming game.

This game shall take you to the medieval era of the Viking age lasting several centuries. The game timeline falls somewhere between 100-400 years prior to the original version of Assassin’s Creed.

The new entry is to continue with Assasin’s Creed’s role-playing formula, that focuses heavily on gears and capabilities than the basic stealth-action of the earlier games.

The trailer also reveals the sea-combat mode back in action. Similar to the AC Black Flag, which returned in Odyssey after being first introduced in Assassin’s Creed III.

AC Valhalla Trailer Reveals

The gameplay looks related to many of its previous versions, essentially capping the series that first started back in 2007. Inspired by the story that began in Origins and continued in Odyssey Assassin’s Creed Valhalla narrative director Darby McDevitt said in an interview with GameSpot.

A lot of thinking was expended on how to connect all the games (series), at least the lore of all the games, to make it feel like everything we’ve done over the past dozen games has little feelers and little entry points into this game.

The Armour Blade

The famous armour-blade is back with vengeance. It comes right out from the protagonist forearm where the weapon is located underneath Eivor’s wrist-band. As opposed to the native style, it comes out from the top of the hand, which contradicts the conventional style shown in previous versions.

Ubisoft has explained that there is a reason for Eivor wearing the blade this way. In fact, this decision removes the “hidden” part of the blade entirely to fit better with the game’s tone and reflective of the protagonist’s culture.

“It is a deliberate decision,” Assassin’s Creed Valhalla narrative director Darby McDevitt said on Twitter. “It’s something that Eivor feels very strongly about. When he or she gets a hold of this hidden blade, it occurs to Eivor that it would be much more interesting to let people see this weapon, to be conspicuous about it.”

The game narrative takes inspiration from the Vikings’ sense of honour. When you kill somebody it’s honourable, you let people know that who killed them is – YOU!

So this holiday season build your own legend in the Viking era!
