Whoopi Goldberg tells Loose Women she thinks pneumonia ordeal was Covid-19
by Kim NovakWhoopi Goldberg opened up about her hospital ordeal last year, telling the Loose Women panel she believes her pneumonia and sepsis was an early form of coronavirus.
The Sister Act star, 64, joined the panel via video link from her home in New York, and revealed what she went through when she ended up in hospital last year.
Whoopi ended up in hospital last year with sepsis and pneumonia, but she believes her extreme illness was probably ‘some form’ of coronavirus, months before the pandemic took hold in earnest.
She told the panel: ‘[The government have] basically said you want to keep yourself away from people or you want to make sure you have on a mask.
‘And I’m a believer that if you’re telling me the way to get rid of this thing is to wear a mask and to stay in my house, I’m not going to doubt it.
‘Because this was insane, and I personally think that people like me last year had some form of this and it evolved into Covid-19.’
She added: ‘But this is no joke, because I was in the hospital for about a month. I’d never been that sick in my life. It was crazy.
‘So this is no joke, people are dying and we’ve got to pay attention. And of course people want to get out and go back to work and it’s like yes, we do.
‘But it’s like when you go to the seaside – I don’t know if you guys have these things on the wall where it says “no shoes, no shirt, no service” – you respect that because it’s somebody’s place of business.
‘So you have to put the same thing in your mind, like no shirt, no shoes, no mask, no service. Until we’re at the place where we’ve got a handle on it, which could be a little while.’
Thankfully, Whoopi came through the other side of her pneumonia, but she admitted despite lockdown sometimes being frustrating, she’s enjoyed it as she’s ‘antisocial’.
Loose Women continues weekdays from 12.30 on ITV.
