The new lockdown rules on sunbathing in parks or on beaches in Wales

The latest coronavirus guidelines on relaxing outdoors and in groups of how many

by

The First Minister has announced new rules around the lockdown in Wales.

At a press conference Mark Drakeford outlined new guidelines that allow people to meet their friends and loved ones from another household from Monday.

However the Welsh Government have also relaxed rules on whether people are allowed to sunbathe in parks or beaches.

Can I go to the park and lay down?

Yes you can.

If you want to chill out and read a book in a park you can, providing you follow the 2m social distancing rules.

Following a question from WalesOnline the First Minister said: "On sunbathing, under the new regulations you will be able to leave your house for exercise and if that involves laying down in the park and sun bathing then that will be OK as well, provided always you keep to those basic rules of nothing.

"[Such as] being close to other people and looking after your own basic hygene."

What about beaches?

When pushed for clarity on beaches Mr Drakeford said that people were allowed to visit "local" beaches.

"So long as you are local," he said. "We have plenty of people living in communities in Wales where the beach is their local outdoors and they are absolutely entitled to use that. You are not entitled to travel more than five miles to get there."

Will this make it harder for the police to enforce the lockdown?

There have been some concerns that the new measures will make it harder to police the lockdown.

In England, groups of up to six people from different households are able to meet outdoors, or in a garden with those who do not live in the same household.

When questioned the First Minister said he believed the Welsh measures were simpler.

He said: "Up until now the [the police] have had to make these judgments at every point in the process.

"In parks, where two household have got together and are meeting at a social distance, I actually think our rules in Wales will be easier to enforce than elsewhere where there has been a cap on the number of people who can get together.

"All you have to do in Wales is to be sure that there is one group of people here from one household...together, and they are interacting with another household at a 2m distance from them - police will not have to count them.
