Former Swansea City manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed he had coronavirus earlier this year.

The current Leicester City boss has not seen his side take to the field since the Foxes beat Aston Villa 4-0 at the King Power Stadium in what was the most recent Premier League fixture played in mid-March.

However, the Northern Irishman has confirmed he had coronavirus, adding that he has since recovered from the disease.

Rodgers - whose wife also tested positive for Covid-19 - revealed the symptoms left him feeling breathless and with no sense of smell or taste.

He told BBC Leicester Sport: "Me and my wife had it just after [the season] broke up. A week later I really started to struggle, I had no smell and no taste.

"I had no strength, and I really struggled, and my wife was the same as well. I got tested and we both had it. I could hardly walk.

"It reminded me of climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro, as you climb higher you get more breathless.

"Walking 10 yards felt very different. I went for a run, and I just couldn’t do it. I felt really weak, had no real appetite, and had a weird sensation for three weeks of having no taste."

It means the 47-year-old - who has also managed Watford, Reading, Swansea, Liverpool and Celtic - is the second Premier League manager known to have tested positive for Covid-19 after Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta revealed he had contracted coronavirus two months ago.

Rodgers' Leicester side are currently third in the Premier League with nine matches left of the 2019/20 season to play.

The English top-flight campaign is set to resume on June 17 after being postponed due to the pandemic.
