Jurgen Klopp lifts the lid on the hidden agreement he makes with Liverpool transfers

by

Jurgen Klopp makes an unwritten agreement with every new Liverpool player when they sign to ensure they give their all for the club.

Liverpool boss Klopp plays a prominent role on deciding who comes and goes at Anfield, and ensures every target is throughly scouted before being signed.

Once Klopp and co. agree that a target has impressed the board then open their chequebook and invariably the player is signed.

But the niceties end there, with Klopp holding a one-on-one conversation with every new recruit and explaining to them that the hard work starts now.

"When we have this agreement, everything was fine, everything was good, that's why we talked, that's why we signed you, but from now on I expect much more," Klopp told Liverpool club media.

"For that, he gets more than he ever got before; more attention, more education, hopefully better training – that's a clear agreement.

"If he is not happy with one of these parts, he can come to me and tell me, 'You told me that, it didn't happen'.

"If I am not happy with one of the things he agreed, I will go to him and tell him, 'You said this and that, you didn't do that – why?' This is a clear deal, but a handshake deal, not written down."

Liverpool had been linked with Timo Werner in recent months, but as Mirror Sport revealed have given up on this particular pursuit.

RB Leipzig are holding out for a fee of £50million for their star player and Liverpool are unprepared to shell out this amount due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Clubs around the globe are tightening their purse strings, and the Reds will not have the budget they've had in previous years this coming transfer window.
