Man City new signing Yan Couto details clause that will double his transfer fee
Manchester City have agreed a deal for Brazilian defender Yan Couto that could double if he plays enough for the first team
by Simon Bajkowski, https://www.facebook.com/simonbajkowskijournalist/Yan Couto has an extra six million reasons to hope that he can break into the Manchester City first team.
The Brazilian right-back was signed by the Blues earlier this year having been tracked by club scouts over a number of years. City have paid Brazilian club Coritiba, also known as Coxa, an initial €6m to secure the player's services from next season.
The idea had been for him to experience pre-season with Pep Guardiola and the first team before a decision was made on where was the best club for him to play at next season. A loan deal was expected, although staying with the squad in Manchester had not been ruled out.
Those plans will have to be reassessed when the results of the impact of the pandemic on football become clearer. In the meantime, Couto could enjoy an unexpected swansong for his old club with him available for selection in the time before he departs for England.
His main aim, however, is to make the City first team and Coritiba will double their money on the 17-year-old if he makes five appearances in either the Premier League or Champions League over the course of his five-year contract.
"The clause is to [play] five Champions League or Premier League games in five years. I hope you can do it, then the amount doubles," the defender told Gazeta do Povo. "I think it is very possible and Coxa will win the other part of the money."
